“Louisville-based health insurer Humana Inc. announced Friday that it will add more than 530 positions to its current work force of 665 employees in Arizona, as it opens a new telemarketing call center in Phoenix to support its rapidly growing Medicare Advantage business and a separate call center in Tempe for the company’s mail-order prescription services.

“Health insurer Humana Inc. said Monday its third-quarter profit nearly doubled year-over-year, due to strong membership growth and one-time gains in its government segment, as well as improvements in the companys commercial operations and stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plans.

Net income for the quarter ended Sept. 30 grew to $302.4 million, or $1.78 per share, from $159.2 million, or 95 cents per share, a year ago. Excluding one-time gains of 25 cents per share related to resolving claims development in its government segment, Humana earned $1.53 per share in the latest quarter….” Health Insurance Humana

Health Insurance- Study 1 in 8 Veterans does not have Health Insurance:

About one of every eight veterans under the age of 65 is uninsured, a finding that contradicts the assumption many have that all vets qualify for free health care through the Department of Veterans Affairs, says a new study.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School projected that about 1.8 million veterans overall lack health coverage. That’s an increase of 290,000 since 2000.

The researchers said most uninsured veterans are in the middle class and are ineligible for VA care because of their incomes. Still others cannot afford their co-payments or lack VA facilities in their community……” Health Insurance
