New “Reg Watch” Service for Kentucky

FRANKFORT KENTUCKY
–Nov. 8- It’s now easier for Kentuckians to be alerted to government regulations that may impact them as the result of a Web-based service called “RegWatch” recently launched by the state. RegWatch gives Kentuckians — particularly small business owners who are often impacted by regulation changes — an opportunity to be automatically notified of newly proposed administrative regulations or changes to existing regulations that may affect them. RegWatch users register for the service online free of charge.

The service, provided by the Commonwealth Office of Technology, is the product of legislation passed last year by the Kentucky General Assembly.

Sen. Dick Roeding, Co-chair of the General Assembly’s Administrative Regulation Review Subcommittee, said the services offered by RegWatch will strengthen the link between Kentuckians and their government.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to be informed of government actions that may affect them,” said Roeding, R-Lakeside Park. “RegWatch not only helps make it easier and less expensive for people to comply with new regulations, it gives them notice so they can provide their feedback on new regulations.”

Signing up for RegWatch is easy. Users can choose to be notified of regulation changes by e-mail or standard mail. They can register by agency, topic, or a combination of both.

To sign up for RegWatch or to get more information about the service, go online to https://secure.kentucky.gov/regwatch.

Drowsy Driving Prevention Week - National Sleep Foundation

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

“November 5-11, 2007, marks the National Sleep Foundation’s first annual
Drowsy Driving Prevention Week™, a national campaign to educate young
drivers and the public about the dangers of driving while sleepy and other unsafe
driving practices such as reckless driving and driving under the influence.
Car crashes are the number one killer of U.S. teens - more than 5,600 young
people were killed in car crashes in 2005. While many of these crashes were
caused by alcohol and recklessness, fatigue often contributes to crashes
involving young drivers. By launching Drowsy Driving Prevention Week™, the
National Sleep Foundation (NSF) hopes to save lives by teaching young drivers
how to recognize the signs of fatigue and avoid a sleep-related crash…” Drowsy Driving Prevention Week

Financially stable baby boomers  who either retire young or need coverage after a corporate downsizing are driving this push, experts say. Insurers also want to build ties to customers who may need Medicare-related insurance after they turn 65…..” Health Insurance for Early Retirees

ID Theft Rules for Financial Institutions:

ID Theft Rules for Financial Institutions:

“Financial institutions are prime targets of identity theft because they hold their customers money and store large quantities of personal data, so rules issued by Federal regulators on steps these companies must take to prevent ID theft could increase their potential liability. Under the final rules issued by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and other Federal regulatory agencies, all financial institutions will be required to develop and implement a program to prevent identity theft on new and existing consumer accounts. ” from Insurance Information Institute

American Cancer Society: Mixed Messages

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

This blog post is from InsureBlog which focuses on Insurance Issues Principles and Solutions:

“So the ACS has decided to give up on its ads about the dangers of smoking and other risky behaviors in which we’re prone to indulge, nor will it tout the importance of potentially life-saving cancer screenings. In their place, we’ll see a year-long series of advocacy pieces about the wonders of “universal health care

As InsureBlog points out the American Cancer Society is spending $15 million in advertising to spotlight the issue of a lack of health insurance vs focusing on finding cures for cancer.   Let us know your thoughts, do you agree with their decision?
