Why should you buy Life Insurance

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Why Should you buy Life Insurance:

“Everything in life is uncertain that people should prepare for any eventuality. In fact, the only things certain in life are taxes and death. One or both of these things are bound to happen at some point in a person’s life. While taxes will always be present in every society, death can come like a thief in the night.

Sickness and death are frightening as it is. They become all the more frightening when a person has not prepared for such an eventuality. This is the reason why every person should get a life insurance.

People should always plan their finances and getting a life insurance is one way of planning their finances. Getting a life insurance is just like saving up for the future because there are life insurance policies that provide for a cash value in the event that the insurance is not used up by the person insured. Under this provision, the insured can withdraw or borrow from his insurance policy. It also means preparing for the future of the people you love in case something happens to you. …” Term Life Insurance

Synthetic ID Theft

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

from Identity Theft Prevention:

The Wall Street Journal this week published an article on synthetic identity theft titled “The Borrower Who Never Was” (Christoper Conkey, October 29, 2007).

It describes how an identity thief named James Rose would create synthetic identities, those that appear real on paper, but were actually used by him in order to trick financial institutions into making loans or issuing credit cards.

“Working with a partner, Mr. Rose tricked the guardians of the credit system — lenders and the three big credit bureaus — into treating his fake identities as if they were real, creditworthy consumers. He obtained several hundred credit cards in the names of Mr. Gregory and as many as 500 other fake personas over two years, filching around $750,000 over a two-year period.”…. ID Theft

Shedding Light on Car Insurance Savings

Friday, October 26th, 2007

It can be easier than you think to put the brakes on high auto insurance rates- as an independent insurance agency, Dick Watts Insurance can help! We can review your policy and possibly help you find a variety of ways to save money. Here are some ways to save on your insurance:

  • Ask us to check several Kentucky Insurance companies’ rates. This is the single most important thing you can do to get the best possible rate- and we can do it for you quickly and easily. The difference between the highest and lowes rate available to you from different Kentucky insurance companies could vary by hundreds of dollars.
  • Reduce or drop physical damage coverage on an older vehicle. Depending on your car’s arge and where you live, comprehensive and collision coverage may not be worth keeping. We can help you decide on whether it makes sense to reduce or drop this coverage.
  • Raise your deductible. According to the Insurance Information Institute, raising your deductible from $200 to $500 could reduce your collision and comprehensive cost by up to 10-20%. In addition, becasue the average driver files a collision claim only once every ten years, odds are that over the lifetime of your car, a higher deductible will save you money. We can show you how raising your deductible will lower your premium.
  • Look for discounts. Many insurance companies reduce premiums for certain driver traits or car features. For example, being a homeowner for more than 3 years, senior citizens who have taken an approved defensive driving course, anti-lock brakes, anti-theft devices, air bets. etc. Ask us to check
  • Don’t assume having your car and home insured by the same company is the best option. Because auto insurance rates vary so much from company to company, it may make sense to have your car and home insured by separate companies. Let’s talk about it.

Increased Deductibility for Long Term Car Insurance

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

“The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced increased deductibility levels for long-term care insurance policies purchased in 2008.   According to Jesse Slome, Executive Director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance (AALTCI), “Millions of small and mid-sized business owners are still unaware that the cost of long-term care insurance protection for themselves and their spouse may be fully tax deductible.”

“Tax advantaged long-term care insurance is one of the few remaining significant tax-savings benefits for owners and self-employed individuals,… from Insurance News

Unauthorized insurer in Kentucky -

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

“The Kentucky Office of Insurance (KOI) is investigating reports that an unidentified company is selling health insurance in Kentucky without proper authorization.
A flyer, which has been faxed to consumers in Kentucky, does not specify a company name but offers a health care plan with monthly premiums ranging from $199 for single coverage to $359 for families. The flyer specifically states, “This is health insurance – not discount healthcare!”
KOI learned of the flyers from an insurance agent in northern Kentucky.
An investigator with the KOI Consumer Protection and Education Division called the number listed on the ad and was given conflicting company names, none licensed to sell the product in Kentucky. The plan offers $25 doctor visits, a discount for vision and hearing services, a “huge” preferred provider organization network, a prescription program, $10,000 in accidental injury coverage, and full coverage of the plan’s surgery schedule.
Before purchasing any health insurance, consumers should verify with KOI that the company is licensed to do business in Kentucky. Consumers should be suspicious of offers that seem too good to be true, including lower than normal premiums, low copayments and unrelated benefits or discounts….” for more information visit Kentucky Office Insurance
